Mercedes-Benz vehicle owners will be able to utilize OpenAI's application on board their cars. Here are the details of this innovative integration. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is beginning to play a crucial role in the automotive industry. In the third week of June, it was announced that the German manufacturer has reached an agreement with Microsoft to integrate ChatGPT, an AI software, into its vehicles in the US market.

The goal of this agreement is for the AI system to function as a voice assistant in the brand's cars, aiming to make interaction more intuitive and efficient. ChatGPT will be integrated into the "Hey Mercedes" voice assistant to improve natural language understanding and expand the responses it can offer to users. "Users will experience an assistant that not only accepts natural voice commands but can also hold conversations," the company explains in its statement.

What functionalities will this new integration offer?

The new functionality will allow drivers to obtain details about destinations, search for recipes while driving, receive sports updates, control their smart homes, and answer complex questions. Additionally, the privacy of data collected through voice commands will be guaranteed, which will be stored in the manufacturer's cloud.

This program will be launched in beta mode and will be available for approximately one million Mercedes vehicles equipped with the MBUX infotainment system. Users can access this feature through the Mercedes Me app or via the voice command: "Hey Mercedes, I want to join the beta program."

Why incorporate ChatGPT?

The intention is to offer a system that provides greater freedom, increasing linguistic capacity and providing a more natural experience when interacting with voice commands. The goal is for drivers to feel like their personal assistant is on board the vehicle.

The integration is done through the Azure OpenAI Service, a Microsoft platform for integrating AI into various devices. "Our beta program expands the current functionalities of Hey Mercedes, including navigation queries, weather requests, and other ChatGPT capabilities," concludes the brand's statement.
